Unhealthy ultra-processed food in hospital vending machines in Spain

Spanish El Pais newspaper reported in September 2019 that more than half of the Spanish population is overweight or obese, reaching 54.5%, according to data from the 2017 Spanish National Health Survey (2017). Furthermore, minors are one of the groups with the highest proportion of obesity.

In the Catalonia region of Spain, 35.6% of children between 6 and 12 years old are overweight, which has prompted institutional campaigns by the regional government to warn of the consequences of basing diet on ultra- processed products. Read the full article here (in Spanish)
