If you're staying a few extra days after the retreat in Torrevelilla, you'll be in one of the lesser-known but surprisingly rich parts of Aragón. The area combines medieval towns, dramatic landscapes, olive-oil country, and some excellent hiking.
Alcañiz
Just 20 minutes from Torrevelilla, Alcañiz is the historic capital of the Bajo Aragón region and is well worth a visit for its charming old town, elegant plazas, and hilltop Castle of the Calatravos, which offers panoramic views over the surrounding countryside. Stroll through its medieval streets, admire the beautiful architecture, and end the day enjoying traditional Aragonese cuisine or tapas in one of the town's welcoming cafés and restaurants.
Matarraña region
The picturesque villages of Valderrobres and Beceite are 50 minutes from Torrevelilla in the heart of the Matarraña region. Wander the cobbled streets of medieval Valderrobres, visit its impressive hilltop castle and Gothic church, then continue to Beceite to experience the stunning Parrizal de Beceite, a spectacular walking trail through a limestone gorge with crystal-clear pools and wooden walkways.
Motorland
Just outside Alcañiz is MotorLand Aragón, one of Spain's premier motorsport circuits and home to international motorcycle and racing events, with guided tours and track experiences available at certain times of the year.
Zaragoza
Zaragoza, the capital of Aragón, is an ideal destination near Torrevelilla. Explore the magnificent Basílica del Pilar, stroll through the charming old town and along the banks of the Ebro River, and visit the stunning Aljafería Palace, one of Spain's finest examples of Moorish architecture.
